Canon announces the EOS-60D |

Canon has announced it's replacement for the EOS 50D, the new mid-level EOS 60D. This is not just a simple upgrade though - the 60D is smaller, features an articulated screen and plastic body shell and utilises SD memory cards. It boasts the 18MP CMOS sensor and 1040k dot 3.0" LCD from the EOS 550D, the 50D's AF system as well as the 7D's HD movie capability.

Canon announced the EOS-550D, less then a year after the launch of the 500D. This 'upper entry level' DSLR is highly spec'ed for it's class and boasts 18mp resolution, full HD movie capture at 30fps, the 7D's metering system, a widescreen (3:2) LCD panel, custom Auto ISO function and an improved button layout.

Canon recently announced the EOS 7D digital SLR. With a new 18MP APS-C CMOS Sensor, Dual DIGIC 4 processors, ISO range expandable to 12800, continuous shooting at 8 fps and full HD video recording. It also incorporates a new viewfinder with 1.0x magnification and 100% coverage and a 3 inch LCD with 920k dot resolution.

Two EF-S, APS-C lenses. The 15-85mm F3.5-5.6 IS USM and the 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 IS USM. And the first lens supporting Canon's new Hybrid IS technology, a 100mm F2.8 macro. The Hybrid IS system is claimed to provide up to 2 stops stabilization at 1.0x magnification, and up to 4 stops at longer shooting distances.

Canon has recently launched the successor to the respected EOS 5D, the world's first 'compact' full frame digital SLR. The EOS 5D Mark II boasts a new 21MP CMOS sensor, an expanded ISO range of 50-25,600 and a wealth of improvements and new features including full 1080p HD movie recording, live view, 3.0" 920k dot LCD, DIGIC IV processor, increased battery capacity and sensor dust reduction.

Adobe unveils CS4 |

Adobe has revealed Creative Suite 4, the latest version of its huge design and production suite. Important to photographers will of course be Photoshop CS4, which brings some interface changes (tabbed windows) as well as 64-bit Windows support and OpenGL support to use graphics cards to speed up operations (and provide nifty zoom and rotation tools) and a new non-modal approach to adjustment layers.

We were certainly a little surprised to hear that Canon has launched the EOS 50D, an upgrade to but pretty soon after the EOS 40D. External styling is very similar but under the hood the 50D boasts a fifteen megapixel CMOS sensor, faster DIGIC 4 processor, 3.0" VGA LCD monitor with Live View mode offering 3 AF modes, ISO sensitivity expandable to 12800 and an HDMI connection.

Canon recently announced the new EOS 1000D, a new entry-level DSLR specked just below the 450D. With 10 megapixels in a lighter, less expensive body and many of the 450D's features, Canon seems intent on shaking up the market much like it did with the introduction of their 300D a few years ago.

EOS-1D Mark III AF problems |

Canon has officially released a statement regarding the AF problems experienced by some users of its EOS-1D Mark III DSLR. They say the sub-mirror assembly is to blame for focus and tracking inaccuracy in AI servo continuous mode particularly when working in high ambient temperatures. Bodies with serial numbers 501001 through 546561 are said to be affected, and Canon are preparing to offer free repairs on those units.
