Q: Is camera repairs in SA in a crises?

We contacted Roger Machin, Product Manager Photo / Video / Digital / Visual Communications at Canon South Africa ( Pty ) Ltd., and this was his response:

A: With regard to the Camera Tek situation:
A decision was made at the highest level to outsource all of our warranty repairs - mainly due to the sheer volume of cameras coming in for repair. Now this looks like a bad statistic I know - BUT failure rates are a factor as a percentage of units sold. As we have grown exponentially in the last five years - our volume of sales is now insane - subsequently the volume of cameras to be repaired increases at the same rate. We were just too small to handle the amount.

As with all new ventures - there are a few teething problems. I am led to believe that things are being sorted out at the moment and we should resume regular service shortly.

However - if you have a specific instance that you have a major problem or concern with - please send an e-mail to me directly with ALL the relevant details ( ie. job number , person contacted , dates etc. ) and I will forward them to the service director for his immediate comments.
